Ruptured Tendo-Achilles

This is a common sports injury in a 40 year old running, jumping impact player. A ruptured tendo-Achillies is usually treated surgically with repair done with a percutaneous technique through small incisions to minimise the risk of infection. The recovery is 3-12 months whether it is treated conservatively or with surgery. The post-surgical phase sees the patient immobilised in a splint or a boot for up to 3 months and then the patient requires physiotherapy in order to regain strength and movement of the operated leg.
